Sapience Communications

Richard is a Co-Founder of Sapience Communications, an award-winning consultancy specialising in financial, corporate and technology communications, with particular expertise at the intersection of financial services, digital transformation and market disruption. His multidisciplinary background spanning financial journalism, investment banking and strategic advisory gives him a distinctive perspective on how the City of London is evolving as a global financial hub and the forces reshaping the future of asset management. Richard qualified as a barrister before moving into journalism with a number of media titles, including Euromoney and The Economist, covering business, finance and capital markets. His work has also appeared in other international publications including the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times and The Washington Post. He subsequently moved into investment banking, where he spent many years largely as an equity analyst covering financial sectors and technology firms including Société Générale, Standard Chartered, CLSA, Morgan Stanely and EFG Hermes. This experience provides him with valuable insight into the competitive pressures and strategic considerations affecting the asset management sector today. As co-founder of Sapience, Richard now advises financial institutions, technology businesses and innovation-led companies navigating growth, transformation and reputational challenges. He works extensively with businesses operating across financial services and fintech, advising on strategic positioning, market narratives and communications around major corporate developments. Richard is particularly well placed to contribute to discussions on the future of the City of London and can offer an informed perspective on what major transactions such as the Nuveen–Schroders deal may signal for the future direction of asset management and how the City can maintain its position as a leading global financial hub. A former Managing Director of a leading UK consultancy’s Financial Division, Richard is a regular media commentator, including appearances on the BBC, speaks at international conferences and has been a judge on a number of industry awards panels. Richard holds a law degree from the University of Cambridge.
